Art
At Stocksfield Avenue Primary School, we aim for children to become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture, and other art, craft, and design techniques while learning about famous artists and exploring their styles and techniques.
Our curriculum is designed to develop creativity, imagination, observation skills, decision-making, concentration, and persistence, building and developing characteristics of effective learning. Skills in exploring and developing ideas, drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, textiles, and printing are progressed throughout the year and across year groups. Lessons are planned to ensure the progression of skills by building on previous experiences, exploring, and refining techniques.
We place a strong emphasis on oracy, encouraging students to articulate their thoughts and ideas about their artwork and the work of others. Through discussions, presentations, and critiques, pupils develop their vocabulary, ability to express diverse perspectives, and communication skills.
Our art lessons enable pupils to develop an effective learning style that enhances their vocabulary, diversity of thought, and overall growth. This approach fosters greater levels of concentration, creativity, persistence, problem-solving, and decision-making, which can be applied across other subjects. Children are equipped with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent, and create their own works of art, craft, and design.
Art at Stocksfield provides opportunities for children to shine and succeed, enhancing well-being and self-esteem. Through discovering new talents and developing confidence in both the subject area and themselves, children experience a holistic growth that extends beyond the art classroom.
