Stocksfield Avenue

Primary School

French

At Stocksfield Avenue Primary School, it is our intention to provide a high-quality languages education that fosters pupils’ curiosity and deepens their understanding of the diverse world we live in. The children are encouraged to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers.

We aim to foster an interest in language learning by introducing children to the French language and culture in a way that is enjoyable and accessible to all pupils, regardless of their background. Using the 'Primary French project' to underpin our curriculum, we hope to stimulate and encourage children’s curiosity about language and give them opportunities to experiment with it in a safe and inclusive environment.

We believe that learning another language has many benefits for our children. It encourages cross-cultural understanding, promotes inclusivity, and boosts problem-solving, memory, critical thinking, and listening skills. We will help children develop their awareness of cultural similarities and differences, fostering respect and appreciation for diversity, and lay the foundations for future language study.

At Stocksfield Avenue Primary School, our children have weekly French lessons where they learn about the rich and varied cultures in France as well as the language. It is our intention that by the end of their time at Stocksfield Avenue Primary School, they will have acquired an understanding of both spoken and written French, the confidence to speak in French, and a natural curiosity to explore and appreciate other countries, cultures, and languages.
